The latest addition to bar miyako is 9148, the first craft gin from Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan. It’s base is a finely-made gin, strong in juniper and orthodox botanicals like angelica root and coriander, but to this, local Hokkaido ingredients Hidaka Kombu (seaweed), dried radish and dried shiitake mushrooms are added, giving it an utterly amazing “umami” kick.
To fully savor the umami, 9148 is best served neat, but it also goes well with tonic, or as a hot gin. As an aside, the name of the gin is an Orwellian anagram, but rest assured, it is as far from Victory gin as you can get, so please do stop by if your interest is piqued!
This week, bar miyako is open as usual from 7pm to 1am on Monday to Friday and from 7pm to midnight on Saturday. I hope to see you all again soon!
